Why I’m Writing a Sequel Though My Debut Sold Modestly

Simple: I love writing.
I didn’t write The Fae Sisters hoping to get rich. If one of my books ever takes off, I’ll be speechless, and for a writer that’s saying something. But I’m not holding my breath.
I am writing the sequel from the villain’s point of view.
The Shadow Queen’s First Breath follows Morlynne, the antagonist, of The Fae Sisters. Her story took an unexpected turn while I was telling it, but it’s her story to tell.
As Chancellor of the Lunaris Kingdom, Morlynne always felt her destiny was bigger than her role. She wanted a kingdom of her own, something like a sister kingdom. Since Queen Adelina would never allow that, Morlynne must carve out her own path. This is a story of a royal court fae becoming a dark fae and losing her loyalty to the Lunaris Kingdom along the way.
Her journey leads her to a gnome village, one I fell in love with. It has a king, a wizard, and my personal favorite, Ninfa, a female gnome who grows forbidden healing herbs. She sells them or gives them away, depending on what the individual can afford. It’s against the law, because all healing herbs must be grown by a member of the guild. I don’t want to give away too much, but I could have gotten lost in that universe. That’s not what this book is about, though.
Along the way, Morlynne befriends a fae with a goal of her own. Each uses the other. But who will get what they want?
I’ve finished Morlynne’s story arc, and I am working on the side story arc. I can’t wait to see how the two intersect in the final act.
Time will tell.
