The Story That Won’t Leave Me Alone

Ever since I wrote The Fae Sisters, one character has refused to let go: Elarella, the alchemist fae who gets into, and out of, more trouble than anyone in the Lunaris Kingdom.

Elarella, or Ela to her friends, was a scene-stealer in The Fae Sisters and has a major role in The Shadow Queens First Breath. But there’s a question I’ve never answered in either novel: how did she become a great alchemist in the first place?

Why Ela?

Of all the fae sisters, why her? Simple: her personality. She’s quirky, she has the curiosity of a child, and she’s the most fun to discover. This is a fae who once used a mirror as a portal to contact the human named Hanna even though it was against fae laws to contact humans. Let’s just say there were a few bumps along the way.

What to expect?

Her origin story doesn’t fit in The Shadow Queens First Breath, because that book has a different focus. But it’s perfect for a novella. I’ll take Ela out of the Lunaris Kingdom, introduce new characters, and throw a few obstacles in her way. For starters: what could an ancient elf teach a fae about alchemy? I won’t spoil much more than that. You’ll find out soon enough.

The plan?

I planned out her journey, and I will start writing in November. I am writing it alongside book two, so I don’t have an exact date yet, but I’m aiming to finish in 2027. I’m still deciding whether to publish it or offer it as a giveaway for my readers.

One more thing: characters have a habit of ignoring my ideas. Ela may decide to take a different path, and honestly, that is where the fun begins. In The Fae Sisters, one of the sisters made a chose I never planned. It surprised me, be she was right, and the book was better for it.

As an author, there will always be that one character whose story must be told because it won’t leave you alone. For me, that’s Ela.
